Manuel started diving in 1989 and became a BSAC recreational diving instructor in 1993. He then progressed to technical diving, becoming an Open Circuit Instructor in 2004 and a rebreather instructor in 2008.
During his diving career, Manuel worked in Portugal, Spain, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Nigeria, Iran, UAE, Gabon, Katar, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Singapore, Indonesia, Angola, and Mozambique.
Manuel currently holds the following certifications:
- PADI IDC Staff Instructor.
- SDI/TDI – Instructor.
- Trainer / ITE.
- SSI – Assistant IT and XR.
- Adv Mixed Gas Instructor (Hypoxic).
- IANTD – OC, SCR and CCR Adv Mixed Gas Instructor (Hypoxic).
- IART – OC, SCR and CCR.
- Adv Mixed Gas Instructor (Hypoxic).
- ISC Megalodon Classic, ISC Megalodon 15, ISC Pathfinder.
- Poseidon MK VI and VII

In 2012, Manuel decided to kick off his career in Commercial Diving. He currently holds the following certifications:
- NDT CSWIP 3.1U – Underwater Welding and Concrete Inspector.
- IMCA Top-Up Diver (50 mt Air; 75 mt Mixed Gas; Hot Water Suits).
- Subsea Tools, Underwater Welding, Oxy/Arc Cutting.
- HSE First Aid at Work.
- OPITO – BOSIET (HUET, EBS and Norwegian Escape Chute), MIST.
- Banksman & Slinger.
- RYA Power Boat Level 2 & VHF Marine Radio Operator.
- Kirby Morgan Technician e User/Operator Instructor.
- PSI – PCI VIP Cylinder Inspector #29681 (Dive Lab, USA).
